London Communities Policing Partnership (LCP2) Report

Report: 6
Date: 13 December 2010
By: Chief Executive

Summary

This is a covering report for the report of the London Communities Policing Partnership, which is to be submitted to this sub-committee annually.

A. Recommendations

That Members receive the report.

B. Supporting information

1. London Communities Policing Partnership (LCP2) is the community and police engagement group (CPEG) umbrella body, which is funded by the Authority to provide support, training and advice to all CPEGs.

2. Given its pan-London remit, an LCP2 representative attends this sub-committee as a co-opted member to provide additional specialist advice on community and police engagement issues.

3. Given the Authority’s financial commitment to LCP2 and that it has a London-wide remit, it was agreed that it would be useful for LCP2 to provide a report to this sub-committee representing the work that it has been conducting with CPEGs and also providing information about its own management and development processes.

4. The report (see Appendices 1, 2 and 3) provides an insight into the development of LCP2 over the last three years and also discusses some areas for future development. The report also highlights the concerns of both LCP2 and CPEGs in respect of future funding for MPA community engagement. Officers recognise these concerns and they are partially addressed in the report at agenda item 4.

C. Other organisational and community implications

Equalities Impact

1. There are no specific equalities issues arising from this report, but it is recognised that the engagement activities of CPEGs and LCP2 need to have regard for good equalities and diversity practice and to be broadly representative of all London’s communities. The Authority supports Groups in this area by providing professional advice and guidance, making provision for relevant training and by providing financial support to meet the specific access needs of members of the community as and when required.

Met Forward

2. The Authority’s community engagement programme is part of the Met Connect strand of met Forward and supports the Authority’s ambitions to develop a better conversation with London’s communities.

Financial Implications

3. There are no specific financial implications arising from this report, but it should be noted that the Authority supports LCP2 with grant funding of £94,000.00.

Legal Implications

4. There are no legal implications arising from this report.

Environmental Implications

5. There are no environmental implications arising from this report.

Risk Implications

5. There are no specific risks arising from this report.
