At each meeting of the committee members receive a report from the Sub-committees and related forums that have met in recent weeks.

B. Supporting information

1. At each meeting of the committee members receive a report from the Sub-committees and related forums that have met in recent weeks. This report provides members with details of the key items considered at the following meetings:

• Equality and Diversity Sub-committee (9 December 2010)
• Community Engagement and Citizen Focus Sub-committee (13 December 2010)
• Joint Human Resources and Remuneration and Resources and Productivity Sub-committee (20 December 2010)

Equality and Diversity Sub-committee

1. A report was received on the use of specialist firearms patrols by the MPS in targeted operations to reduce gun crime in boroughs. This provided an overview of firearms operations, along with the process for engaging with and reassuring local community groups.

2. A report was also received on MPS response to far right extremist groups, which detailed how the MPS monitors these groups and provides community reassurance as part of its operational response.

Community Engagement and Citizen Focus Sub-committee

4. Reports were received on Community and Police Engagement Groups and London Communities Policing Partnership, which detailed the group’s work and plans for the future. Discussions were held on the proposed arrangements and allocations for 2011/12.

5. An update report on the Independent Custody Visitor scheme was received, which discussed the scheme’s performance and plans for future development.

6. Reports were received on the Removal of the Policing Pledge and also an update on Confidence in Policing. These reports detailed the ways in which the MPS standards shall be promoted, and public confidence shall be measured.

7. A report was received on the Cross Border Innovations Fund, outlining the proposed spending on the successful bids. An update report on the development of the MPS front counters service was also received, which outlined the drive to improve efficiency of service to the public.

Joint Human Resources and Remuneration and Resources and Productivity Sub-committee

8. An oral update was received on meetings between the MPA Chair and the staff associations and trade unions.

9. A report was received on Section 26 Overseas Travel, which provided an overview of exceptional travel cases under Section 26 over the last six months.

10. A report on the MPS Redeployment Arrangements was received, outlining the current redeployment policy and arrangements which have been developed to manage the impact of organisational change on members of staff.

11. A report on the MPS Transport Services Service Improvement Programme was received, which provided an overview of financial costs and efficiency savings.

12. A report was received on the Specialist Armour National Framework, which examined the evaluation of tender submissions for the national framework.

1. Equalities and diversity are key issues for the Authority and considerations of such matters are central to the work of this committee and its Sub-committees. As such, matters of equality and diversity are given full consideration in relation to the matters discussed at each meeting.
