34. Minutes: Counter-Terrorism and Protective Services Sub-committee (Part 1) – 1 April 2009

(Agenda item 3)

The Committee considered the minutes (Part 1) of the meeting held on 1 April 2009. As the last meeting was inquorate, the recommendations made therein were agreed.

The Chair noted that since the last meeting AC Bob Quick, SO, had been replaced by AC John Yates. He requested that AC Quick’s contribution to the MPS and ACPO TAM to be formally noted. He stated he was sad that he had gone and wished him well in the future.

Resolved – That

  1. the minutes of the Counter-Terrorism and Protective Services Sub-Committee (Part 1) held on 1 April 2009 be agreed and signed as a correct record; and
  2. the recommendations made therein be agreed

35. Exclusion of press and public

(Agenda item 4)

A resolution was put to exclude the press and public from the meeting during remaining items on the agenda as they were likely to disclose exempt information as described in Schedule 12(a) of the Local Government Act 1972, paragraph 3.

Recommended - That the press and public be excluded from the meeting during discussion of the remaining items on the agenda

Summary of decisions made on exempt items

36. SO1 (protection) – Oral upate

(Agenda item 5)

A presentation was provided on the work of SO1, Specialist Protection, which provided personal protection to various principals. Members were informed the branch’s work, development and costs.

37. SO6 (Diplomatic Protection Group) – oral presentation

(Agenda item 6)

Members received a presentation on SO6, Diplomatic Protection Group, the largest firearms command in the country. The difficulty of female recruitment was highlighted.

38. Performance update – Pursue

(Agenda item 7)

A report on Pursue was considered. This was one of the four strands of the MPS counter-terrorist strategy which dealt with stopping terrorist attacks.

39. Specialist Operations financial management information year end 2008/09

(Agenda item 8)

The Sub Committee was asked to consider Specialist Operations financial management information for year end 2008/09.

40. Specialist Operations performance management information

(Agenda item 9)

The ‘restricted’ appendix to the report had not been circulated due to misunderstanding. So the Chair decided that the report should not be considered.
