Summary

The Commissioner will cover the subjects detailed below in his oral report to Members. He will also update the meeting on any new events or major incidents that occur or develop after completion of this report

A. Recommendation

That Authority members note the contents of this report.

B. Supporting Information

1. Recruitment and retention

The Commissioner will update Members on the latest recruitment figures, including:

  • numbers joining the MPS and comment on progress towards the achievement of the recruitment targets for this financial year;
  • numbers of tranfers in an out of the MPS;
  • latest numbers of enquiries and applications to join MPS.

Statistics for February 2001 will be available for the information of members at the meeting.

2. Operation Trident

The Commissioner will update the meeting on the latest operations undertaken by the Trident team (up to the end of February). Information to be given will include a resume of Trident related incidents, numbers of arrests and, where possible, outcomes.

3. Operation Strongbox

The Commissioner will update members on the progress of Operation Victory, currently operating in Westminster under the 'Strongbox' initiative. He will be able to give a detailed breakdown of arrests and other statistics up to the end of February. 'Strongbox' is expected to conclude in Westminster during March and move to Haringey in April.
