Summary
This report outlines a mission statement and values for the Metropolitan Police Authority.
A. Recommendations
- That the mission statement and values for the Metropolitan Police Authority are approved.
B. Supporting information
1. As agreed at the MPA development day in April, a small group of members, comprising Nicholas Long, Reshard Auladin and Richard Sumray, met with officers to formulate a mission statement which expressed the core purpose of the Authority.
2. In recognition of the desire for quality policing to the benefit all the people, ranging from residents to business communities and tourists, the group articulated the following statement which they feel complements the core purpose of the MPS
To secure an effective, efficient and fair police service for London's communities.
3. The group also proposed that the Authority show direct support for the values of the MPS by adopting them, ie:
- Treat everyone fairly
- Be open and honest
- Work in partnership
- Change to improve
4. As well as informing the work plans of individual units and guiding specific projects such as the race equality and staff development and appraisal schemes, the mission and values will be used to help:
- explain the role of the Authority
- lead and manage delivery
- assess performance
- improve performance.
