Decisions taken in this way have to be reported to the next meeting of the Authority for information. This report must state which members were consulted. Under the urgency procedure, wherever possible the members of the relevant committee (or of the Authority if that would be the decision-making body) should be informed in advance of the proposal to take a decision. This action must also be reported as having been carried out.

2. The following action has been taken:

  • Agreeing to a request for exceptional funding for legal representation as a forthcoming inquest for the eleven police officers who were involved in the restraining and care of Andrew Jordan (03/2005).
This decision was taken by the Deputy Chief Executive & Clerk after consultation with the Chair of the Authority and the Chair and the Deputy Chair of the Professional Standards & Complaints Committee. Members of the Professional Standards & Complaints Committee were notified in advance (by email) of the proposed decision.

  • Agreeing to continue to provide legal assistance to police officers involved in the inquest into the death of Derek Bennett (05/2005) by funding the cost of Counsel attending and opposing the judicial review application
This decision was taken by the Deputy Chief Executive and Clerk after consultation with the Chair of the Authority and, in the absence of the Chair of the Professional Standards & Complaints Committee, the Deputy Chair and one other member of that Committee.
