B. Supporting information

1. This annual conference is arranged by the Standards Board for England as a forum for monitoring officers, standards committee members and other local authority professionals to consider and discuss issues of mutual concern. The title of this year’s conference is ‘Cracking the Code’ and it will focus on such issues as whether everyone is clear about the application of the Code of Conduct, what are the areas of difficulty and how could it be improved. The full advance programme is attached for members of the committee only.

2. The conference will be held on 13 and 14 September at the International Conference Centre, Birmingham. The cost is £380 (inclusive of VAT) + accommodation costs (or £210 inclusive of VAT for one-day attendance). As the cost including accommodation and travel will exceed £500, the Co-ordination & Policing Committee will need to approve any attendance.

3. The MPA has been represented at the first two annual conferences and the Committee is now invited to consider whether to send a representative this year.
