MPS diversity strategy action plan – progress report

Summary

On 4 December 2001, the Diversity Strategy Board approved the draft version of the MPS Diversity Strategy Action Plan. It received favourable comment, in particular from the Commission for Racial Equality and has been published on the Diversity Directorate's Intranet site. Each member of the Diversity Strategy Board and Diversity Strategy Co-ordination Forum has received a copy of the action plan. 

The Diversity Strategy Monitoring Unit is now formalising systems to ensure the action plan is progressed and monitored effectively. 

The Diversity Strategy Monitoring Unit is undertaking a 'scoping' study, identifying to what extent each Borough and Unit is contributing to the Diversity Strategy. This information will be subsequently analysed, good practice will be promulgated and a bespoke diversity presentation prepared.

Progress Report

1. This report follows that which was submitted for the CDO meeting held on 15 November 2001.

2. On 4 December 2001, the Diversity Strategy Board approved the draft version of the MPS Diversity Strategy Action Plan. It received favourable comment, in particular from the Commission for Racial Equality and has been published on the Diversity Directorate's Intranet site. Each member of the Diversity Strategy Board and Diversity Strategy Co-ordination Forum has received a copy of the action plan.

3. Now the action plan has been approved, the Diversity Strategy Monitoring Unit is in the process of formalising systems, to ensure it is progressed and monitored effectively.

4. The Diversity Strategy Monitoring Unit is undertaking a 'scoping' study, identifying to what extent each Borough and Unit is contributing to the Diversity Strategy. This information will be subsequently analysed, good practice will be promulgated and a bespoke diversity presentation prepared.

5. Since the previous report dated 15 November 2001, Detective Superintendent Carl Bussey has been appointed as chair of the Stop and Search Work Group.

Stephen Lawrence Inquiry Recommendations

6. It has been agreed that the Stephen Lawrence recommendations will be included within those relevant work groups, which come under the Diversity Strategy Co-ordination Forum. Therefore, responsibility will be given to the work group heads to progress the recommendations and formulate key actions and target dates. This will generate accountability, responsibility and direction, which the Monitoring Unit can monitor and evaluate.
