A. Recommendation
Members are asked to note the report.
B. Supporting information
1. The allocation of £265,000 during 2004/2005 was used to benchmark the first roll out of the Safer Neighbourhood Survey as no funds had been allocated for this task in budget at the time. A breakdown is provided below.
MPS Corporate survey costs 2004/2005
- Public Attitude Survey: £214,246.00
- Crime Victims Survey: £346,500.00
- Safer Neighbourhoods: £234,919.00
2. The Public Attitude Survey and the Crime Victim Survey were funded through MPS budgets, whilst the Safer Neighbourhood survey was funded by the MPA allocation of £265,000.
2005-06
3. Funding for both the Public Attitude Survey and the Safer Neighbourhood Survey evaluation has now been made available corporately through the Step Change and other corporate budgets. The continued allocation of funds from the MPA will also assist in the funding of these corporate projects. There is also a need to conduct more qualitative work (such as focus groups and workshops with specific community and victim groups) and other bespoke consultation that the additional funds from the MPA will support.
C. Race and equality impact
The respondents for the Public Attitude Survey are selected at random based on probability sampling. In the past the Public Attitude Survey has not contacted set quotas of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people, refugees or asylum seekers or people without permanent homes. However, using probability sampling, these groups have an equal chance of being selected. Secondly, the supplementary work currently being conducted specifically focuses on some of these groups.
D. Financial implications
The financial implications are covered within the report.
