Summary
This report seeks approval to the attendance of four MPA members and two MPA officers at the Association of Police Authorities (APA) Annual Conference 2002 'Policing Matters' to be held at the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate, North Yorkshire on 20 – 21 November 2002
A. Recommendation
That approval is given to the attendance of the Chair, MPA members Jenny Jones, Rachel Whittaker, Richard Sumray and the Clerk and MPA officer Keith Dickinson at the Association of Police Authorities Annual Conference 2002.
B. Supporting information
1. In May 2001 the Committee approved a process for agreeing Members' attendance at conferences on behalf of the MPA. As part of this process, the Committee's approval is required if the cost of the conference, including travel and accommodation expenses, exceeds £500 per delegate.
2. The Association of Police Authorities Annual Conference 2002 is to be held at the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate, North Yorkshire on 20 – 21 November 2002 The Association of Police Authorities Annual Conference 2002 'Policing Matters' – will combine hard-hitting sessions focusing on the key operational issues facing the police service, with interactive syndicate sessions and extensive networking opportunities. Speakers will include the Home Secretary, John Denham MP, Kevin Bond and Sir Keith Povey, together with other high-profile speakers. This is clearly a conference that is very relevant to the MPA and it is proposed that six members attend as MPA representatives.
3. The Committee's agreement is sought as the cost exceeds the £500 threshold. The cost is £458.25 per delegate inclusive of overnight accommodation. Travel will be £217, making a total cost per delegate of £675.25.

D. Financial implications
The cost can be met from the MPA budget for 2002/03.
