Report: 05
Date: 10 March 2005
By: Clerk
Summary
The report asks the Board to consider whether it wishes to change the date of its next meeting if, as is widely expected, the general election is held on 5 May. It also suggest some alternative dates.

- to identify an alternative date from those listed at paragraph 3.
B. Supporting information
Background
1. There is considerable speculation that the general election will be held on Thursday 5 May which is the next scheduled meeting of the Board.
2. It is likely that several members will be involved in duties elsewhere on election day and in order to avoid the possibility of the EODB meeting being non-quorate the Board is asked whether it wishes to consider changing the date of this meeting in the event of the general election being called for that day. Holding the meeting on election day might also affect the ability of some members of the public who wished to attend from being able to do so.
3. If the Board is minded to change the date then the following alternative is suggested: Friday, 13 May at 2.00 p.m. (following the meeting of the Co-ordination and Policing Committee). Another possibility would ies are 10.00 a.m. on Tuesday 17 May or Thursday 19 May 2005.
4. The instructions of the Board are requested. A letter confirming the changed arrangements will be sent in the event of the election being announced for 5 May.
C. Race and equality impact
The Equal Opportunities and Diversity Board is the lead body on all issues relating to equal opportunities and diversity within the MPA and MPS. It has an ambitious work programme and it would clearly not be advantageous for its meetings to be held on a day when it is known that many members might not be able to attend.
