Bow Street former police station – approval of sale
Report: 8
Date: 21 October 2004
By: Commissioner
Summary
The MPA previously authorised the sale of the Bow Street former police station. This is a joint sale with the Greater London Magistrates' Courts Authority (GLMCA) and a report to the Finance Committee of 22 July 2004 refers.
This report seeks MPA members’ approval to the sale of the MPA’s interest in this property.
A. Recommendation
That members be asked to agree the unconditional sale of the MPA’s interest in Bow Street former police station to the highest named bidder as shown in the exempt report being presented to the Committee.
B. Supporting information
1. Bow Street police station was last used as an operational building in 1997. A joint disposal has been agreed with the GLMCA who own the adjoining Magistrates’ Court. The property was marketed with unconditional and conditional bids being sought.
2. Due to the high level of interest a second round of bids seeking best and final unconditional offers was instigated.
3. A sale to the highest bidder in the second round is recommended as set out in the linked exempt paper.
C. Race and equality impact
There are considered to be no equality or diversity issues arising as a result of this disposal and the local planning authority is also under a duty to consider these matters.
The provision of key worker or social housing accommodation at this site will need to meet the requirements of the local Planning Authority, as and when granting planning consent for development.
D. Financial implications
There are no unusual or onerous financial implications to the sale. Proceeds of sale will be shared with the GLMCA as set out in the exempt report.
E. Legal implications
Apart from normal property contract matters there are no specific legal implications associated with this sale.
F. Background papers
None
