B. Supporting information
Background
1. Six monthly reports are provided to the Human Resources Committee setting out statistical data and information about high risk and significant Employment Tribunal (ET) cases. These report are produced for the April and September meetings of the Committee.
2. At the Human Resources Committee meeting on 19 April 2001, the MPS were requested to prepare data in a revised format that complimented the information already provided.
3. As the data had not previously been collated in this format considerable extra work was necessary to extract and collate the information from individual case papers. This additional work coincided with other pressing demands on a sparsely resourced unit. Consequently it has not been possible to present the full historical data originally requested without adversely impacting on the primary work of managing live ET cases.
4. It has also not been possible to provide projections of the anticipated cost of claims, possible awards, legal fees, costs of investigations and professional services. The ET Unit is not resourced to make such projections across the range of cases and similar difficulties would also be encountered by the Directorate of Legal Services.
5. Statistical information in the revised format (as far as has been possible) see Appendix 1. The data covers the current calendar year and historic data for the years 2000 and 1999. Data not yet available will be included in due course.
6. Subject to the approval of the Human Resources Committee, this format will be used to provide data for the September update.
C. Financial implications
None arising directly from this report.
D. Background papers
