Report: 12
Date: 13 March 2003
By: Commissioner
Summary
This report gives a summary of Specialist Crime and Specialist Operations performance against their High Level indicators from April to December 2002.
A. Recommendations
That the Committee
- notes the report; and
- members agree gun crime and the Firearms Unit as topics for in-depth consideration in July.
B. Supporting information
1. This report provides management information on Specialist Crime Directorate and Specialist Operations Department. The indicators were agreed at the Planning, Performance and Review Committee (PPRC) in January 2003.
2. The report attached as Appendix 1 gives brief commentary on performance against all the indicators. It comments on the performance data provided and any difficulties in achieving the targets.
3. There are two changes to content contained in the report. Both are from Specialist Crime’s original submission. The format has also changed and is more user-friendly. Under the Intelligence entry we are awaiting confirmation of the agreed measure and target to support the MPA’s objective ‘to disrupt the Trafficking of Class A Drugs, Firearms and Humans’. Under Forensic Services two indicators have been replaced with ones that reflect key areas of business and are more closely linked to the Policing and Performance Plan 2002/03.
4. There was a request to suggest a topic or unit for in-depth consideration at the next presentation of this information to the PPRC. For Specialist Crime the topic is gun crime and Specialist Operations it is the Force Firearm Unit.
C. Equality and diversity implications
Equality and diversity issues lie at the heart of this report; in achieving the aims set out within this report, it assists towards achieving the Commissioner’s statement, Mission, Vision and Values, of making London the safest city in the world.
D. Financial implications
