Summary

The Service Improvement Review of security guarding (concluded in July 2005), made a number of recommendations identifying key areas for improvement. This report provides an update on progress to date in implementing the recommendations.

A. Recommendation

That

  1. it is noted that the remaining amber recommendations will always remain amber as they are ongoing requirements of a service contract; and
  2. because of the ongoing nature of the amber recommendations, the report should be closed and maintenance of the service returned to business as usual under the control of Property services and SO16.

B. Supporting information

1. The following progress report identifies the development of Service Improvement Review recommendations to date. The report covered both in house guarding services (the responsibility of Diplomatic Protection) and out sourced guarding service (the responsibility of Property Services).

2. Some of the recommendations were for Diplomatic Protection to lead on, some for Property services and some have required joint engagement.

3. Appendix 1 attached contains the 16 recommendations identified which are being lead by Diplomatic Protection or Property Services or jointly, and provides an update on the implementation status of each.

4. The updates to the recommendations have been flagged as red, amber and green. There are no outstanding (or red) items. Amber denotes ongoing work to implement the recommendations; and green denotes implementation of the recommendation is complete.
