Summary
Sir Ronnie Flanagan, Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary has been invited to attend the meeting of the Professional Standards and Complaints Committee to brief Members on the forthcoming HMIC inspection of the Directorate of Professional Standards and to answer any associated questions that may arise.
A. Recommendations
That the Committee receive the oral presentation from Sir Ronnie Flanagan.
B. Supporting information
1. In Autumn 2005, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary is to carry out an inspection of the Directorate of Professional Standards in order to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of its procedures, systems and practices.
2. Background papers are presently awaited from Neville Pinkney, HMIC Inspector and it is anticipated that these will be made available to Members in advance of the meeting.
3. Members will however be provided with further information concerning the terms of reference and operation of the inspection at the meeting on 9 June 2005. Sir Ronnie Flanaghan will provide an overview of the HMIC thematic inspection of the Directorate of Professional Standards and will be available to respond to Members’ questions.

There are no diversity implications evident within the information that is currently available.
D. Financial implications
There are presently no direct financial implications but any arising will be highlighted at the meeting on 9 June 2005.
