By: Commissioner

Summary

This report provides an update of current work within criminal justice. It summarises the outcomes of the completed reviews and notes the future Best Value Review.

A. Recommendation

That Members note the report.

B. Supporting information

1. The Metropolitan Police Service's Performance Review Committee (PRC) has continued to review performance in criminal justice, and had considered commissioning an inspection of criminal justice processes.

2. In February, PRC received details of the recent reviews of criminal justice issues that had already been carried out in the MPS. A summary of the recent reviews see Appendix 1.

3. In view of this reported activity, PRC agreed not to commission a new inspection. The meeting recommended that the forthcoming Best Value Review on "bringing offenders to justice" should be brought forward. It has since been proposed by the MPS that the Best Value Review should start in early May. The scoping of the Best Value Review (BVR) will establish how the BVR fits with other development work, including the implementation of the Glidewell Report.

C. Financial implications

None.

D. Background papers

None.
