Member involvement in the MPS local inspection programme
Report: 10
Date: 14 February 2002
By: Clerk
Summary
This report outlines the proposed arrangements for MPA oversight of the MPS Local Inspection Programme.
A. Recommendation
Members are invited to agree:
- the involvement of individual members with specific MPS command units as set out in the schedule at Appendix A; and
- that officers of the Authority maintain a central record of inspection reports and subsequent action plans, whether or not a member was involved in the inspection.
B. Supporting information
1. The schedule at Appendix A proposes the involvement of individual members in the inspection of specific MPS command units. The timing of inspections and the identity of lead inspectors are liable to change but if the date changes, the MPS will write to the link member at the earliest opportunity.
2. As an inspection approaches the lead inspector will contact the link member to make the necessary arrangements. The role of members in inspections includes:
- The opportunity to meet with the lead inspector prior to the inspection itself.
- Invitation to attend and participate in any partnership focus group that is arranged as part of the Inspection.
- The opportunity to be briefed by the lead inspector following the inspection.
- The provision of a copy of the final inspection report.
- The provision of a copy of the action plan created as a consequence of the inspection.
3. Where a member is not involved in an inspection, copies of the report and subsequent action plan will be retained by the lead MPA officer, who can also offer assistance in contextualising, analysing and interpreting the implications.
4. Any member who wishes to volunteer to take part in any unallocated inspection should contact Keith Dickinson.
