Summary

This paper gives details of the draft MPS response to the DETR consultation on Best Value Performance Indicators for 2001/2002. The MPA is also consulted on the proposals. PSPM is asked to consider whether a joint MPS/MPA response would be appropriate.

A. Supporting information

1. The Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) has published a consultation document on Best Value and Audit Commission Performance Indicators for 2001/2002.

2. The MPS is compiling a response. The MPA is also being consulted. PSPM is asked to consider whether a common response is appropriate.

3. ACPO are compiling a police service response, to which the MPS will contribute. The APA may also ask for a view from the MPA, as part of a combined police authority response.

4. The draft MPS response is attached as Appendix 1.

B. Recommendation

  1. Members are asked to review the draft MPS response and determine whether a joint MPA/MPS response is appropriate.

None.

D. Review arrangements

The closing date for consultation responses is 27 October 2000.
