MPA Consultation Committee visits Southwark

58/01
03 August 2001

The Metropolitan Police Authority’s Consultation, Diversity and Outreach Committee will hold its next meeting in Southwark on Thursday 20 September at Warwick Park School, Peckham Road, SE15 5DZ from 6.00 pm.

The committee, which has responsibility for community consultation, crime and community safety and diversity in policing, holds its formal committee meetings in a different borough every two months.

The Borough Commander of Southwark and the Council’s Chief Executive will attend the meeting and give a presentation about a new approach in dealing with young people and crime in Southwark.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to question members of the MPA on their responsibilities, bring local policing issues to their attention and raise specific issues with the local Borough commander and local authority Chief Executive concerning crime and community safety.

Chair of the Consultation, Diversity and Outreach Committee, R. David Muir, said:

‘The work of the Consultation, Diversity and Outreach Committee is vital in building effective partnerships with London’s diverse communities.

‘We want a police service which has the confidence and trust of its local community. We have meetings in community venues to facilitate local participation and greater understanding of the work of the Metropolitan Police Authority. Everyone is welcome to attend.”
