72/01
17 October 2001
Cecile Lothian, MPA link member for Southwark, has been invited to represent the Authority on the Southwark Local Strategic Partnership.
The overall aim of this body will be to improve the lives of people in Southwark by joint working, especially in the major issues of regeneration, crime, health, education, employment and the environment.
Cecile Lothian said :
"I am very proud to be able to serve my community in this way. We aim to improve the lives of people in Southwark and set a vision for the future of the borough. We will be consulting with residents to find out what really affects people lives and what people want to see changed.
"We will also work with our partner agencies and be accountable to each other by keeping our promises and delivering action on our agreed goals. For 20 01/2 our main targets are to further develop our Community Plan and Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy, look at any cross-cutting Public Service Agreements and implement a Communications and Community Involvement Strategy.
"I will also be able to feed information back to my colleagues in the MPA so that best practice can be disseminated amongst all our Members for their link boroughs."
The Southwark Local Strategic Partnership will be made up from 26 members from statutory agencies, major providers in the borough, residents representatives , the business community, voluntary sector and the faith community.
Both Cecile Lothian and the Borough Commander, Rod Jarman, who will be representing the Metropolitan Police Service, have already been involved in the establishment of this partnership and the first meeting will be held on 10 November, 2001.
