MPA welcomes Met staff 'yes' vote on pay deal

The Metropolitan Police Authority has welcomed the decision by Metropolitan Police civil staff to accept a new pay and grading package which will bring them into line with other public sector workers.

Rachel Whittaker, Chair of the Authority’s Human Resources Committee, said:

“The MPA has been determined to improve working conditions and overcome the serious retention problem involving all civil staff.

“We have managed to find the money from within a very stretched budget to provide a reasonable package that will stop good people from leaving and encourage others to join.

“We will continue to work with the unions and the Metropolitan Police to build upon this agreement to ensure that conditions of service continue to improve.“

The new pay and grading structure was agreed by members of the Public and Commercial Services Union following a ballot of members that closed on Wednesday. The Institution of Professionals, Managers and Specialists and the Association of First Division Civil Servants had earlier voted to accept the deal.

The latest pay rises are the result of the pay and grading review which recommended improvements to the location allowance for all civil staff last April and the 3.5 per cent above inflation pay rise from 1 August. The package also awards frontline civil staff increases which reflect the importance of their key roles.
