MPA Chair welcomes new London Warden's Forum

87/02
3 September 2002

Toby Harris, Chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority, today welcomed a new phase of co-operation and partnership between the diverse members of the extended police family across London when he spoke at the launch of the London Warden’s Forum.

The forum has been formed to facilitate inter-agency co-operation, develop joint initiatives and represent the interests of public and private sector wardens’ schemes across the capital.

Speaking at the launch, Toby Harris said:

“The launch of the London Warden’s Forum is not about an erosion of the duties and powers of the police but an effective strengthening of the alliance between the police and their partners.

“If the upsurge in crime has taught us one thing, it is that tackling lawlessness and anti-social behaviour cannot be left to the police alone. It is only through partnership, co-operation and the extended police family, that we can make a real impact on crime and disorder.

“By bringing together all members of the extended police family in the public and private sectors, we can create a group of professionals who can share and exchange experiences and expertise and will be able to tackle crime and disorder, lawlessness, vandalism and anti-social behaviour much more effectively than if each body worked alone.”
