MPA reinstates ACPO rank officer

50/03
04 July 2003

On 2 June 2003 an ACPO rank officer was suspended by the Metropolitan Police Authority following receipt of allegations of misconduct. An Investigating Officer was appointed from an outside police force to investigate the allegations.

Today, in accordance with its policy of regularly reviewing suspensions, the Authority considered an Interim Report by the Investigating Officer. In light of emerging information, it has been decided that the investigation into the allegations should continue but that the senior officer concerned should be reinstated.

The matter will continue to be subject to regular reviews.

Notes to editors

1. Allegations against ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) rank officers within the Metropolitan Police are investigated by the Metropolitan Police Authority’s ACPO Conduct Sub-committee. Please note this is an MPA sub-committee of the MPA Professional Standards and Complaints Committee and NOT a committee of the Association of Chief Police Officers [ACPO]).

2. The ACPO Conduct sub-committee role:

  • To investigate and deal with any allegations, reports and complaints about the conduct of officers of ACPO rank in accordance with appropriate regulations.
  • To consider all matters relating to discipline against ACPO rank officers, within police regulations.
