Farewell and thank you to Nicholas Long - MPA independent member
27/04
31 March 2004
Nicholas Long, independent member of the Metropolitan Police Authority, leaves his post today after four years of dedicated work to ensure London’s police service reflects the needs of all its communities.
Nicholas has been the authority’s link member for the borough of Lambeth where he has been involved in policing and community issues for many years.
Toby Harris, Chair of the MPA, said:
“Since joining the authority Nicholas has contributed to a considerable range of policing issues, bringing both an innovative approach and constructive criticism to core business and frontline policing in the MPS.
“We are losing a highly respected member of our team whose contribution to the ethos and achievements of the MPA has been invaluable. Nicholas has consistently voiced the belief that successful policing can only be achieved with the help and consent of London’s communities and worked to achieve this at every level.
“His work on several MPA committees has been valuable, but in particular his work on MPA estate issues has been invaluable and we now have a strategy in place to modernise our properties and make them fit for purpose in the 21st century, for the police and public alike. This is vital to ensure the MPS can carry out its duties effectively and is due in no small part to Nicholas’s continuous hard work.
“We all wish him well in his new career as commissioner for the newly formed Independent Police Complaints Commission and feel confident that he will bring to that post the same inquisitive approach and intrinsic awareness of diversity and equality that he has so ably demonstrated with us over the past four years.”
