MPA welcomes grant settlement

90/04
1 December 2004

Len Duvall, Chair of the MPA, welcoming the announcement by the Home Office about the government grant settlement for the Metropolitan Police, said:

“ We are very pleased that the Home Office has recognised and understood the special needs of policing in London in response to arguments put forward by the Authority and the Mayor Ken Livingstone.

“The MPA’s general grant will increase by 5.8%, which is a cash increase of £110 million, with additional funds to support the continuing counter terrorism activities.

“This will be a big boost for policing in London. Alongside Londoners’ contribution through the council tax, this will help us to roll out more Neighbourhood police teams. Neighbourhood police teams are proving highly effective in the 100 local communities that already have them.”
