Metropolitan Police Authority – December meeting
94/04
15 December 2004
The Metropolitan Police Authority will meet in Room 1 (ground floor), 10 Dean Farrar Street, London SW1 on Thursday 16 December 2004 at 2.00 p.m.
Members will be asked to approve the final budget submission to the Mayor. Budget reductions of £20 million have been identified in a corporate review and the grant settlement announced by the Home Office resulted in an improvement of £21.2 million compared with previous expectations. Commenting on the grant settlement, Len Duvall, Chair of the MPA, said:
“We are very pleased that the Home Office has recognised and understood the special needs of policing in London in response to arguments put forward by the Authority and the Mayor Ken Livingstone.
“The grant settlement will be a big boost for policing in London. Alongside Londoners’ contribution through the council tax, this will help us to roll out more Neighbourhood police teams. Neighbourhood police teams are proving highly effective in the 100 local communities that already have them.”
The MPA has received a budget consultation letter from the Mayor, which was discussed when he met the Chair of the Authority Len Duvall on 9 December. Members will also receive a report of this meeting.
Other issues to be discussed include:
- MPS/MPA High Level Objectives (Corporate Control Strategies) 2005/2006;
- Morris Inquiry Report – oral update from MPA and MPS;
- Police Reform White Paper – draft MPA response.
Commissioner Sir John Stevens will give an oral update on operational policing issues in London and present a written performance report.
