Metropolitan Police Authority - February meeting

A meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority will be held in Meeting Room 1 (ground floor), 10 Dean Farrar Street, London, SW1 on Thursday, 24 February 2005 at 10.00 a.m.

The Authority will be asked to adopt and approve the process for taking forward the recommendations of the Morris Inquiry Report.

Len Duvall, Chair of the MPA said:

“The Morris Inquiry Report is a positive framework for change in the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and the MPA, and will help make the MPS a service fit for the future.

“The recommendations will impact in varying degrees on many MPS services, as well as having implications for the police service nationally.

“Work has already begun on some issues and we will be receiving reports from the Commissioner outlining specific proposals to address the recommendations.”

The report addresses wide-ranging issues including: enhancing the office of constable; professional standards; governance, accountability and scrutiny; the capacity to deliver; building capacity; and lessons for the future.

Other items on the agenda include:

  • Policing Plan 2005/6;
  • The Virdi Inquiry Report part 2;
  • External Audit annual letter 2003/4;
  • Old Street Police Station and
  • Security at the Palace of Westminster.

Commissioner Sir Ian Blair will give an oral update on operational policing issues in London and present a written performance report.
