MPA commends London's business as usual policing activity

Commenting today on the MPS’s commitment to policing London and solving major crimes while concurrently carrying out one of the world’s largest investigations, MPA member Murad Qureshi today said:

“We know that the MPS is facing one of the biggest challenges in its history. Officers and staff continue their intensive investigations, not just up and down our own country but abroad too, while also doing their utmost to keep the capital safe from further attack.

“But we should also acknowledge their continued dedication to the routine, day-to-day policing of London. This week we have witnessed high-profile arrests for shocking murders, including one that took place in my link borough of Brent. And I know that our police officers and Police Community Support Officers remain highly visible on their routine patrols across London.

“Resources are an issue and the Authority is in dialogue with the Home Office about this. But Londoners should rest assured – it’s not a case of one or the other. The ordinary crimes that affect people’s lives on a day-to-day basis have not been forgotten. London’s police remain in control and will not be deflected from pursuing criminals.”

1. Mr Qureshi was referring to the arrest and charging of a male for the murder on a route 43 bus in Upper Holloway on 29 July and the arrest of a suspect for the triple murder on the Stonebridge Estate, Brent, on Friday 5 August.
