Metropolitan Police Authority – September meeting

50/05
27 September 2005

A meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority will be held in meeting room 1 (ground floor), 10 Dean Farrar Street, London SW1 on Thursday 29 September 2005 at 10 am.

The Authority will consider a paper outlining the Service Review, Corporate Strategy and the Together agenda, and the recommended structure for MPA oversight of the next stage of the review. Len Duvall, chair of the MPA, said:

“The Service Review is vital to the modernisation of the Met – no change isn’t an option.

“It has identified proposals which will reshape and modernise the Met, as well as removing duplication in the organisation. The re-alignment of resources is aimed at providing a more effective, quality police service to Londoners.

“We will pay for the changes by efficiency drives throughout the Met, overseen by the MPA, along with investment from the Mayor and central government. Together we will continue to build a modern police service that is fit for purpose and efficient at crime reduction.

“The significant changes proposed by the Service Review will enable us to deliver a better service to Londoners and all our communities.”

Other subjects to be discussed by the Authority at the meeting include:

  • GLA group response strategy to a pandemic flu outbreak;
  • MPS Race Equality Scheme 2005 – 2008 and MPA review of the MPS Race Equality scheme; and
  • MPA Committee Annual Reports 2004/5.

Commissioner Sir Ian Blair will give an update on operational policing issues in London and present a written performance report.

Members will also hear questions from three members of the public:

  • Pauline Bower concerning members of the MPS being involved in the ‘rendition’ process;
  • Shabina Choudray concerning clarification of the shoot to kill policy; and
  • Kelly ben-Maimon concerning additional police resources to deal with later opening hours when government new licensing regulations come into effect.

MPA Chief Executive Catherine Crawford will give the Authority’s response at the meeting.
