24 October 2005

A meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) will be held in meeting room 1 (ground floor), 10 Dean Farrar Street, London SW1 on Thursday 27 October 2005 at 10 am.

Members will receive an update from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) on how they developed their response to the threat of suicide terrorism known as Operation Kratos, which is currently under review. Len Duvall, Chair of the MPA said:

“The MPA welcomes this opportunity to discuss in detail the MPS strategy for responding to the threat of suicide terrorism and to debate this issue in an open and transparent forum.

“London is facing a potential threat to the safety of its inhabitants on a scale that is unprecedented in our history. In such a situation, the MPS faces a difficult duty to uphold the safety of Londoners to the best of their ability.

“Undoubtedly there will be lessons to be learnt from the outcome of the current IPCC investigation and the MPA, working closely with the MPS will be at the forefront of assisting with the swift implementation of any changes in tactics, guidelines or law thought necessary.”
