Metropolitan Police Authority - decision on alleged unauthorised disclosure of confidential police information to journalist

26/06
3 May 2006

Following further preliminary enquiries carried out for the Authority, the MPA Professional Standards Cases sub-committee met on Wednesday 3 May 2006 to consider the case concerning a senior officer whom it was alleged made an unauthorised disclosure of confidential police information to a journalist.

The sub-committee considered both the outcome of their commissioned preliminary enquiries and an explanation put forward by the officer.

The sub-committee noted that the senior officer had recognised that with the benefit of hindsight his conversation with the journalist was unwise and something he would not repeat. They decided that in all the circumstances not to pursue disciplinary action. The outcome will be reported back to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

The senior officer has been made aware of the sub-committee's conclusions and the matter is now closed.
