MPA – statement by Len Duvall: community reassurance following terror arrests

47/06
10 August 2006

Public safety is our paramount concern and we want to reassure Londoners that everything possible has been done, and will continue to be done, to prevent terrorist attacks.

We congratulate the MPS and other police services on their work to prevent this potential atrocity and fully endorse the Deputy Commissioner’s statement that these acts are planned and carried out by murderers who masquerade as members of communities.

We will work with our communities and the MPS to maintain public confidence - effective resilience against terrorism can only be achieved with community support and engagement. We need the help and support of our communities if the police and security services are to be effective in dealing with the threat of terrorism.

The Authority is appealing to all London’s communities to work with us to confront terrorism and help us prevent future attacks. We must not forget these people do not represent communities - they are criminals who have no respect for human life.
