MPA - Attorney General confirms MPS health and safety prosecution to go ahead

65/06
12 October 2006

The MPA has now received a response from the Attorney General's office to its letter of concern about the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) decision to prosecute the Metropolitan Police Service for an alleged breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, arising out of the investigation into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes on 22 July 2005.

The response confirms that the CPS has reviewed the matter and decided to continue the prosecution, and that the Attorney General accepts this view. The Authority will discuss this decision in due course.
