Jean Charles de Menezes: MPA response to the IPCC decision on shooting discipline

21/07
11 May 2007

The Metropolitan Police Authority welcomes the Independent Police Complaints Commission's decision to withdraw Regulation 9 notices in respect of 11 of the officers, which will be a great relief to them. However, it is disappointing that notices remain in force for four officers.

This means they will not know whether they are to face disciplinary action until the conclusion of the trial of the Office of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner for an alleged offence under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), expected to start in October this year.

The shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes was and remains a tragedy, and our thoughts are with his family.
