Borough Community and Police Engagement Groups

previously known as Community Police Consultative Groups

Community & Police Engagement Groups (CPEGs) are the primary local groups for delivering the MPA/MPS community and police engagement and consultation programme. They provide the structure to enable local people to regularly consult with their local police, the police authority, key stakeholders in crime and disorder reduction (such as the local authority and probation service), and each other about strategic policing; including consultation on the Policing Plan development, implementation of Neighbourhood Policing and crime and disorder reduction.

CPEGs are intended to be representative of the local population, and more particularly those groups that interact with the police in disproportionate numbers and their activities are not limited to committee work but include active community engagement in neighbourhoods and with local groups.

CPEG Handbook

The CPEG handbook provides information and advice on good practice for borough based community engagement. It is aimed at members of Community and Police Engagement Groups (CPEGs) to support them in their training and development. It is also intended to provide members of the public with an understanding of the ways in which community focused policing draws on the systematic, stable, open and representative consultation and interaction that a well-run Community and Police Engagement Group (CPEG) can provide.
