This briefing paper has been prepared to inform members and staff. It is not a committee report and no decisions are required.

Summary

Twenty eight members of the Met Volunteer Programme have left since December 2010. The reasons for leaving were career changes, health, travel and family or carer issues. Others found the role was not what was expected or were not performing at an appropriate level and were asked to leave. Some joined the MPS in another capacity or retired.

Background

1. Agenda item 7 of the Communities, Equalities and People Committee meeting of 5th May 2011 dealt with the current position of the Met Volunteer Programme (MVP).

2. Paragraph 9 of the report covered MVP wastage since December 2010. Committee member’s wished to see a breakdown of what were the reasons for this wastage. Set out below is a table giving reasons for that wastage.

3. Since December 2010 28 MVP members have left for a range of reasons which are set out in Table 1.

4. MVP members who left because the role was not what they expected found that the tasks required were different from what they had imagined when they first agreed to volunteer in that role. They did not wish to take on another MVP position.
