Met Forward receives national recognition

On 26 October Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary published Police Governance in Austerity, their thematic report into the effectiveness of police governance. Drawing on the findings of the joint inspection (carried out with the Audit Commission and the Wales Audit Office) of 22 police authorities across England and Wales, the report identifies what is important for police authorities to focus on to respond to the unprecedented challenge of the government’s Comprehensive Spending Review which identified that police funding will reduce by 20% in real terms over the next four years.

The report also highlighted examples of notable practice which recognised the MPA’s Met Forward programme for setting strategic direction and priorities for the Metropolitan Police Service:

‘In 2009 the Metropolitan Police Authority published Met Forward, which is a strategic document that sets out the direction and priorities for policing in London in a format that is easily accessible to the public. Met Forward contains eight work strands to develop and improve services, provide better value for money and fight crime to protect the public.’
