Geographical link members

Report: 15
Date: 26 July 2001
By: Clerk

Summary

This report seeks a nomination for the vacant geographical link member for the London Borough of Havering, following the resignation of Roger Evans from the Metropolitan Police Authority and to note that Jennette Arnold and Eric Ollerenshaw have expressed an interest in becoming link members for Redbridge and Hackney respectively .

A. Recommendations

  1. To note that Jennette Arnold and Eric Ollerenshaw have expressed interests in becoming the link members for Redbridge and Hackney respectively.
  2. That nominations be sought for a link member for the London Borough of Havering.

B. Supporting information

1. The decision to assign MPA Members to specific boroughs was taken at the Authority meeting on 28 July 2000. That decision was taken to enable individual Members to take a lead on and interest in local matters, helping the Authority to forge links with key interested parties (borough commanders, local authority chief executives, local councillors, key players in local Crime and Disorder Partnerships, PCCGs and other community and representative groups). This serves both to promote the role of the MPA and to identify key issues that would help the Authority to achieve one of its key objectives of consultation crime and disorder and the annual policing plan. A copy of the current geographical link Members - see Appendix 1.

2. Roger Evans recently resigned from the Authority leaving the London Boroughs of Havering and Redbridge without a link Member. Nominations were sought from Members to replace Roger Evans in these two boroughs. Jennette Arnold expressed an interest in becoming link member for Redbridge. No nomination to date has been received for the London Borough of Havering.

3. Eric Ollerenshaw was appointed to replace Roger Evans on the Authority and with Rachel Whittaker's agreement has become the link member for Hackney.

4. Members are asked to nominate a link Member for the London Borough of Havering.

C. Financial implications
