Elections of Chair and Deputy Chairs to the Authority and appointments to the Authority

Summary

This report asks members to elect the Chair and Deputy Chairs of the Authority.

It also asks members to confirm the appointments of the chairs and deputy chairs and membership of committees as agreed at the Authority meeting held on 30 March 2006.

It also asks the Authority to ratify the Co-opted Member appointments to the Corporate Governance Committee and Equal Opportunities and Diversity Board.

A. Recommendation

That

1. nominations for the position of Chair of the Authority be sought;
2. nominations for the position of Deputy Chairs of the Authority be sought;
3. the membership of the Authority’s committees, including the positions of chairs and deputy chairs, as agreed at the Authority meeting on 30 March 2006 be confirmed; and
4. the Authority confirm the appointments of the co-opted members as given at paragraph 5 below.

B. Supporting information

Chair and Deputy Chair of the Authority

1. The Authority is asked to appoint its Chair and Deputy Chairs for the ensuing year.

Chairs and Deputy Chairs of committees and committee membership

2. A review of the Authority’s committee structure was completed early this year and appointments made at the Authority meeting on 30 March 2006. It is therefore recommended to re-confirm the appointments made at 30 March 2006 Authority meeting for the ensuing year.

4. A copy of the current membership of the Authority’s committees is attached at Appendix 1. Members may wish to consider further appointments to committees, particularly those such as Corporate Governance, which are currently under subscribed.

Co-opted members

5. The Authority currently has two co-opted members, Richard Stephenson, Director for Health and Safety from Transport for London, who sits on the Corporate Governance Committee and provides the Committee with advice on health and safety issues. Lee Jasper is co-opted to the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Board in his capacity as the Mayor’s advisor on policing and equalities.

6. In accordance with Standing Orders 1.8.3, the Authority is asked to confirm these appointments until June 2007.
