Standards board conference and roadshow

Summary

Members are invited to consider sending representatives to the Standards Board for England’s Roadshow and the Fourth Annual Assembly of Standards Committees.

A. Recommendation

That the Committee decides whether to send delegates to these two events.

B. Supporting information

1. The Standards Board for England (SBE) are currently running a series of roadshows to:

  • listen and respond to feedback and experiences, particularly where there have been local investigations or determinations;
  • talk about the next steps needed to move the ethical agenda forward;
  • hear first-hand views on the review of the Code of Conduct and share the emerging themes;
  • discuss the characteristics of good practice and how it can be achieved;
  • report on improvements in SBE performance;
  • offer support and advice from the SBE legal and policy teams.

2. The London roadshow takes place on Tuesday, 21 June, 1.30 to 5 p.m. at the Barbican. There is no charge for attendance at this event.

3. The Fourth Annual Assembly of Standards Committees takes place on 5 – 6 September at the International Conference Centre, Birmingham. The advance programme (which may be subject to change) is attached. Stephanie Caplan attended the third Annual Assembly in 2004 and she may like to share her experiences of this event with other members. The conference cost is £395 (or £295 for one day) excluding accommodation and travel.

4. The Committee is invited to consider sending delegates to these events.

Any conference costs will be met from the Members’ conference and training budget.
