Background
1. The Best Value Review of Consultation is being undertaken by a joint team from the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) and Metropolitan Police Service (MPS). The review has completed the analytical stage and the first draft best value review report has been completed. This report includes the findings, options and recommendations for the future of consultation for the authority and MPA in London.
Current status
2. The best value review report has been circulated to officers and the Project Board for initial comments and feedback.
3. Work has started on the draft consultation strategy, which draws on the findings from the review.
Future development of the Best Value Report and strategy
4. The project is on course as stipulated in the July meeting to produce the strategy at the next CDO meeting in November. During the interim period there will be continued challenge from the Independent Challenge Panel, with internal and external feedback from members and key partners on the review and its proposals.
Members involvement
5. Members are currently involved in the review in the following ways. The CDO chair and a nominated deputy are members of the project board. One CDO member chairs the Key Partners Group and a non CDO member chairs the Independent Challenge Panel.
6. A member’s workshop has been scheduled on 26 October 2000 (1.00-3.00pm), where members will be given an opportunity to discuss the findings, options and proposals. A further workshop is planned in November to discuss any resultant revisions, the emerging strategy, and high-level implementation and communication issues such as the launch and consultation with key partners on the strategy, and it is envisaged that the CDO Committee will make decisions on the strategy at the November Meeting.
