Summary

Officers have now submitted the Authority's response of the consultation on Recommendation 61 of the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry Report, to the Association of Police Authorities (APA). The report was circulated to all members inviting their comments and observations and has been presented for discussion by the Consultation Diversity and Outreach Committee (CDO) meeting on Tuesday 26 June 2001. A copy of that report is attached and members are asked to note the recommendations of that report. The Chair of the CDO Committee will give a verbal update of the outcome of the meeting to this committee on 5 July 2001.

A. Recommendations

  1. Members note the response of the consultation on Recommendation 61 that has been submitted to the APA.
  2. Members receive a verbal report from the Chair of the CDO Committee on the outcome of the decisions reached at the Committee meeting of 26 June 2001.

B. Supporting information

1. A copy of the interim response to the APA was circulated to members for this comments and observations. No responses have been received to date.

2. Appendix 1 (see Supporting material) was discussed at the CDO Committee meeting on 26 June 2001 and members are asked to note the recommendations contained in the report. It also proposes a process for managing the next phase of the report and feedback on the outcomes of the consultation with the groups and communities, which assisted the MPA in the exercise.

3. The Chair of the CDO Committee will be asked to bring a verbal report of the key decisions taken by the CDO committee for members consideration and action, where required.
