Committee work areas

Report: 6a
Date: 06 September 2002
By: Clerk

Summary

This report proposes an allocation of the MPA's various work areas between committees.

A. Recommendation

That the committee endorses or amends the proposed committee work areas detailed in appendix 1.

B. Supporting information

1. One aim of the MPA's new committee structure is to reduce duplication between committees. One way of achieving this is to allocate specific work areas to specific committees. MPA policy officers have carried out an exercise to do this and the proposed allocation is attached as Appendix 1 (see Supporting material).

2. This allocation is not a formal document in the sense that committee terms of reference are, and it does not override any of the responsibilities or limitations in those terms of reference. However, it is intended to be used to decide which committee should lead on particular issues. It will be a dynamic document in that from time to time it will be necessary to review whether it still reflects reality.

C. Equality and diversity implications

The allocation of work areas to the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Board indicates those where it is felt that the equalities dimension is sufficiently strong to make it necessary for the Board to take the lead on behalf of the MPA. This is not to say, however, that work areas allocated to other committees have no equalities dimensions and, as made clear in committee terms of reference, all committees have a responsibility to take account of these.

D. Financial implications

None.

E. Background papers

MPA Committee terms of reference.
