Re-naming of the former Wembley Section House
Report: 10
Date: 10 April 2003
By: Commissioner
Summary
In accordance with the agreed policy and procedure, members are requested to agree the name 'Sudbury House' for the former Wembley Section House, 603 Harrow Road, Wembley, Middlesex.
A. Recommendation
Members are requested to endorse the proposal to re-name the former Wembley Section House 'Sudbury House'.
B. Supporting information
1. The Wembley police station and section house refurbishment is in its final phase with completion expected in August 2003. The newly refurbished (former) section house will enable Brent Borough fully to amalgamate resources providing five floors of office accommodation and catering facilities on the ground floor for police officers and support staff.
2. As the former section house is no longer a residential block for police officers, it seems an appropriate time to review the name and look to the future.
3. The borough command team discussed the re-naming of the former section house with senior managers, all of whom felt that it would be appropriate to canvass the views of staff. As a result, a survey was conducted throughout the borough and suggestions put forward.
4. The borough command team then met to discuss the suggestions and make the final recommendation. After careful consideration of the options, the borough wish to propose the name 'Sudbury House', as it appears from research that there was once a building very near to this site called 'Sudbury Hall', built in the late 1800s. Lord Toby Harris, the MPA link member for Brent, has been consulted and is happy with the proposal.
C. Equality and diversity implications
There are no equality or diversity implications arising from the issues in this report.
D. Financial implications
The small cost of signage has been included in the overall funding for the refurbishment scheme and there are no additional financial implications.
E. Background papers
None.
