Report: 10
Date: 22 July 2002
By: Commissioner
Summary
This report gives a summary of MPS performance against policing plan objectives for 2002-03.
A. Recommendations
Members are asked to note the report.
B. Supporting information
1. The MPS Performance Review Committee (PRC) considered this report on 21 June 2002.
2. The report gives brief commentary on all priorities and identifies areas where further analysis is required.
3. Appendix 1 (see Supporting material) gives a list of policing plan performance indicators, and other high profile performance measures.
4. The PRC noted that street crime performance was improved. The decline in answering times to 999 calls was discussed; measures are in place to address this through fuller staffing of information room.
5. A separate report was received regarding MPS sickness performance, and further work was requested regarding an identified gender difference in sickness (female staff having the higher levels), and links with rank and caring responsibilities.
6. PRC also discussed recent developments in service wide performance monitoring, particularly with regard to criminal justice data. Concerns were raised that the MPS was seen as one of ten street crime action team (SCAT) forces, and was not adequately influencing the development of case tracking information (through the Home Office). This is being progressed through the relevant street crime steering committees.
7. A verbal update regarding first quarter performance can be provided at the meeting.
