Statement on Ealing bombing by MPA chair

56/01
03 August 2001

Toby Harris, Chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority, said today:

‘The indiscriminate bombing in a busy area of Ealing last night was a cowardly act by people who had a total disregard for the safety of the many people in the vicinity at the time.

‘Our sympathies go to those who were caught up in the blast, who are very lucky that they escaped serious injury.

‘We support the police wholeheartedly in what is a difficult and painstaking investigation, and will assist them with whatever resources are necessary to carry out their inquiries as they try to apprehend the perpetrators of this wicked crime.’
