MPA appoints consultants to identify 'quick win' efficiencies in Met

55/01
02 August 2001

Today the Metropolitan Police Authority, together with the Metropolitan Police Service and the Mayor, appointed consultants Accenture to carry out an efficiency and effectiveness review within the Met.

The aim of the review is to free up money by identifying savings within departments in all areas of the Met. This money can then be directed as quickly as possible into the Budget for front line policing.

Peter Martin, Treasurer of the MPA said:

“This is an important opportunity to secure more effective use of the substantial resources committed to policing in London.”

One million pounds had been allocated within the Budget to appoint consultants to identify ‘quick win’ efficiencies in the Met.

Their main task will be to identify savings in the Budget over and above those already put in place by the MPA’s Finance Planning and Best Value Committee.

Accenture will be looking at specific areas, including supplies and stores, transport, overtime, interpreters and forensic medical examiners and forensic science and DNA.
