Metropolitan Police Authority - Full Authority Meeting

78/01
23 October 2001

A meeting of the full Metropolitan Police Authority will be held on Thursday, 25 October 2001 at 10.00 am. in Room AG16, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, SW1.

Items on the Agenda include the Budget Submission to the Mayor and Policing Priorities for 2002/2003. The MPA Treasurer, Peter Martin, will report on the Overall Financial Position for 2001/2002 and the Commissioner, Sir John Stevens, will give a Budget Monitoring Update.

Speaking about the police budget, Toby Harris, Chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority said:

"I have asked the Commissioner, Sir John Stevens, to report to Thursday's meeting of the Police Authority on the steps that he is putting in place to ensure that there are no problems in the current year in financing the measures necessary to protect London's security following the events of 11 September.

"Clearly there have been a series of meetings that the two of us have had with the Home Secretary and the Mayor to look at the implications for the police budget of the current heightened security arrangements in London. All involved are keen to make sure that the safety measures that are necessary to protect Londoners can continue despite the financial pressures we face.”

Other Agenda items include an update on the Police Reform Programme and a review of the Resource Allocation Formula.

The Commissioner will also give his regular verbal report to the Full Authority on current operational policing issues in London.

This meeting is open to members of the press and public.
