Partnership is key to fighting crime, says MPA Deputy Chair

Dealing with antisocial behaviour and street crime is the job of the whole community, not just the police, Richard Barnes, Deputy Chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority said today.
Speaking ahead of a conference in Hillingdon tomorrow to devise a new four-year community safety strategy for the borough, Mr Barnes, MPA link member for the borough, said:
“Maintaining law and order is the responsibility of the whole community, working together to develop ideas to reduce crime and the fear of crime.
“This is especially important at a time when drug-fuelled gun crime and street robbery have become a real menace, blighting the lives of law-abiding citizens across the capital.
“By bringing together all interested parties and involving local communities in the process as we are in Hillingdon, long-term problems such as graffiti, vandalism, drug dealing and burglary can be tackled much more effectively.
“Through partnership and cooperation we can reduce the fear of crime and increase the quality of life in our neighbourhoods.”
